Biden day 4

Senator Joe Biden has a lot of great plans for the country and he has also helped to create a lot of progressive bills that we should be proud of. Biden even has a plan for making a more positive situation in Darfur. I'm not sure many of the candidates are this thoughtful.

Please check out the Senator's website to see his efforts at a whole. But also read over these points that he makes for ensuring peace in the Sudan from his site.
  • Immediately send to Darfur the U.N. “Heavy Support Mission” (Phase 2) – 3000 police and soldiers to bolster the African Union and prepare the way for the full U.N. peacekeeping mission (Phase 3). Press other countries to immediately provide the needed helicopter and ground vehicles. If they won’t, the U.S. must
  • Set a deadline for Khartoum to accept the full U.N. peacekeeping force (Phase 3) – 23,000 peacekeepers – and secure commitments from other countries to take part.
  • If Khartoum rejects the full force, impose and enforce additional sanctions, impose and enforce a No Fly Zone over Sudan and commit U.S. forces to help the African Union protect civilians and ensure access for humanitarian groups.
  • Put all parties on notice – including Khartoum, the militia and rebel groups – that they will be held accountable for failing to ensure the access and safety of humanitarian workers.
  • Launch a sustained, coordinated diplomatic offensive with the U.N., the A.U. and leading countries to bring the rebel groups together and negotiate a political settlement between them and Khartoum

Biden in nature

Joe Biden... the natural choice

Biden day 3

Joe Biden wants to protect the environment for future generations of Americans.
  • Primarily, he wants Congress to pass strong bills that would focus on reducing pollution.
  • He knows that the problems that global warming cause require global solutions.
  • There needs to be special attention paid to international treaties that would protect the environment worldwide.
  • Especially treaties with countries like China and India that contribute so much to pollution.
  • He wants cars and trucks to be environmentally friendly and to have industry wide gas mileage rise to at least 40 mpg by 2017.
  • The most important issue is that he have the chance to defend clean air and water here in the US and abroad.
  • Senator Biden has fought hard for the protection of the wildlife refuge in Alaska from ever being used for drilling for oil and other natural exploitations and will continue to do this in the future.

We love them

Biden day 2

Joseph Biden... a 2008 Democratic hopeful for the highest office in the land. One of the hottest issues these days is what the candidates will do in the Middle East, namely the 52nd state of the USA, Iraq.

Senator Biden has a 5 point plan for Iraq:

1. Keep a central government but divide the country into "breathing spaces" for the factions in separate regions.

2. The faction without the control of oil revenue in the country needs the greatest amount of support. That faction is the Sunni Muslims in Iraq.

3. Major support is needed for the region and those from the oil-rich nations that surround Iraq should offer support with job creation and protection of minorities.

4. A major diplomatic initiative is needed to lasso support from major world powers and immediate neighbors to the objectives of the political viewpoints of Iraq.

5. Most US soldiers would return to the US by summer of 2008 while keeping a small contingent of military officials to keep neighbors honest and to thwart any actions by terrorists.

Interesting ideas. Check back everyday to see more of Senator Biden's viewpoints and other tidbits about the politico till the end of the week.

Joe Biden week!

Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Nov 20th, 1942. He's a Democratic senator from Delaware and is running for the 2008 Democratic nomination for president.

Senator Biden is the first candidate for my 8-week long series in which I will devote a week of blogging to each of the 8 Democratic candidates. If we have the fortunate luck of additional candidates, I'll think about adding them to the series.

So here's to Joe Biden!!
